It looks as if a number of companies have decided that the writing is on the wall and online poker will soon be legalized in the United States. One of the companies banking on regulated online poker (either at the state or federal level) is Mohegan Sun. Mohegan Sun has recently launched a free-play online poker site that uses the OnGame Poker Network’s software and has the look and feel of a real-money online poker room.
I was able to take the site on a test-drive before the official launch, and was pretty impressed with every facet of the project; from the look and speed of the software, to the games and formats available. Now it looks like the site is readying for a broader launch, as Mohegan Sun Poker sent out an E-Mail describing three promotions they are running. This promotion awards the winner an “Experience Package”, basically a two-night weekend getaway to Mohegan Sun.

The details of the online VIP Cub have not been completely straightened out at this point, but my assumption is that it will somehow tie into the regular Mohegan Sun VIP Club.
The most important aspect of MoheganSunPoker.com is that the site is completely free to play on; the site does not require a subscription and has no sign-up fees of any kind. Basically, all of these freerolls are available to anyone with an Internet connection, and the site can be wither downloaded or played in a Flash browser.
All of this appears to indicate that Mohegan Sun is building up to a real-money online poker launch as soon as online poker is legalized in the US, at the state level (Connecticut), or possibly across tribal lands and casinos, which would create their own inter-casino player-pool.
